NetSuite agent skills (SuiteCloud Agent Skills): the 10 skills and how to install them
In short
- SuiteCloud Agent Skills are Oracle’s official skills for AI agents working with NetSuite: 10 open-source folders in the Agent Skills format (GitHub). Two serve business users, eight serve developers.
- A skill is knowledge, not access. Reading NetSuite data also needs the NetSuite AI Connector Service (Oracle’s MCP server).
- Developers, Claude Code and Codex in one repository:
npx skills add oracle/netsuite-suitecloud-sdk --skill netsuite-suitescript-records-reference netsuite-sdf-roles-and-permissions -a claude-code codex -y. The Claude Code plug-in takes all eight development skills instead. - Business users: the NetSuite AI Companion or NetSuite Finance Analyst plug-in, or the skill’s ZIP uploaded to Claude or ChatGPT.
- Version 1.0 (release, June 15, 2026), Universal Permissive License (UPL) 1.0. Some rules differ from Oracle’s Help Center and Oracle Database documentation: correct them in
CLAUDE.mdorAGENTS.md.
As of NetSuite 2026.2. Commands as documented by Oracle, Anthropic, OpenAI and Vercel (skills CLI 1.7.0), September 26, 2026.
Who this is for
Developers using Claude Code, Codex or Cline. Finance users and admins on live data: jump to Install in Codex, Claude and ChatGPT. The wider picture: AI and NetSuite in 2026.
What you need
- Developers: Codex, Claude Code or Cline (the agents Oracle names). The
skillsCLI 1.7.0 declares Node.js 22.20 or later. Oracle says a NetSuite account is “required only for deployment”. - To deploy: SuiteCloud CLI 4.x (Node.js 24 LTS, Oracle JDK 17 or 21), an SDF project, a sandbox auth ID (setup).
- Business users: Claude or ChatGPT connected through the AI Connector (setup guide).
What an agent skill is
A folder that teaches an AI agent a task: a SKILL.md file (name, description, instructions) plus optional references. Agents read names and descriptions at startup (about 100 tokens per skill, per the agentskills.io specification) and load the full SKILL.md when a task matches.
| Component | Gives the AI | Touches NetSuite data? |
|---|---|---|
| Agent skill | Knowledge: rules, workflows, reference data (field IDs, permission IDs, API mappings) | No |
| NetSuite AI Connector Service (MCP, Model Context Protocol) | Access: tools that run reports, saved searches, SuiteQL, record reads and writes, under a NetSuite role | Yes |
| AI Agent Plug-in | A package of skills for one AI platform | No |
Oracle’s plug-in manifests declare "skills": "./skills/" and no MCP server or other component.
Similar names. The NetSuite AI Companion plug-in (a skill for your AI client) is not the NetSuite AI Connector Service Companion SuiteApp (a prompt library inside NetSuite). Oracle’s 2026.2 release note calls the plug-in “NetSuite AI Connector Companion”.
Ask Oracle skills are another thing: guidance for Ask Oracle, NetSuite’s conversational assistant, such as the core skill “Overdue customer analysis”. An RSM demo calls them “agent skills” too (Sarah Muha, RSM). See NetSuite’s native AI features.
The 10 skills
SDF is the SuiteCloud Development Framework, deployed with the SuiteCloud CLI (command-line interface). SuiteQL is NetSuite’s SQL dialect. Counts come from the GitHub files (master, September 26, 2026). “Active” estimates what SKILL.md adds to the context once the skill loads (characters divided by 4); references load only when needed.
| Skill | What is inside | Use it for | Active (approx. tokens) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Business user skills | |||
netsuite-ai-connector-instructions |
One SKILL.md (363 lines): tool order (reports first, SuiteQL last, after confirmation), formatting, multi-subsidiary and currency rules, SuiteQL checklist |
Claude or ChatGPT on live data | 4k |
netsuite-finance-analyst |
SKILL.md and 5 references; read-only by default; materiality thresholds; an 11-probe onboarding of your account |
Close, variance, AR and AP aging, cash, board reporting | 3k |

Starter set for an SDF developer: the records reference and roles and permissions skills. Add the upgrade skill for a migration, the SAFE Guide for SDF objects, knowing its size.
Each SKILL.md ends with a “SafeWords” block; most require your confirmation before create, update, delete or deploy actions.
The 3 AI Agent Plug-ins
All three are version 1.0.0, authored by Oracle NetSuite, under UPL 1.0.
| Plug-in ID | Name | Skills | Platforms, per Oracle |
|---|---|---|---|
netsuite-suitecloud |
NetSuite SuiteCloud | The 8 development skills | Codex (ChatGPT desktop app, CLI); Claude Code (desktop app, CLI) |
netsuite-ai-companion |
NetSuite AI Companion | netsuite-ai-connector-instructions |
ChatGPT Work; Codex; Claude Cowork; Claude Code |
netsuite-finance-analyst |
NetSuite Finance Analyst | netsuite-finance-analyst |
Same as NetSuite AI Companion |
Anthropic’s claude-plugins-official marketplace lists all three, pinned to a commit of Oracle’s ai-plugins-dist branch; updates reach you when Anthropic moves the pin. Per Oracle, the business plug-ins “require the NetSuite AI Connector Service to access NetSuite data”.
npx skills or the Claude Code plug-in?
| Criterion | npx skills |
Claude Code plug-in netsuite-suitecloud |
|---|---|---|
| Skills | You pick (all 10 available) | All 8 development skills |
| Agents | Claude Code, Codex, Cline and others | Claude Code (Codex has its own, per Oracle) |
| Name in Claude Code | /netsuite-sdf-safe-guide |
/netsuite-suitecloud:netsuite-sdf-safe-guide, or the bare name if unused |
| Team sharing | Commit the skill folders and skills-lock.json |
Project scope adds enabledPlugins to .claude/; each collaborator installs once |
| Updates | When you run npx skills update |
Automatic by default |
For a shared repository, prefer npx skills: the files sit in Git, you choose what loads, one install serves Claude Code and Codex. The plug-in suits one developer in Claude Code who wants updates handled. Use one route per agent: with both, Claude Code loads both copies (Anthropic’s docs).
How to install
Install with npx skills (Claude Code, Codex, Cline)
Oracle’s README uses skills, Vercel’s open-source CLI, and recommends installing skills one by one.
# Preview the 10 skills
npx skills add oracle/netsuite-suitecloud-sdk --list
# Two skills, for Claude Code and Codex, in this repository, without prompts
npx skills add oracle/netsuite-suitecloud-sdk \
--skill netsuite-suitescript-records-reference netsuite-sdf-roles-and-permissions \
-a claude-code codex -y
# List, update, remove
npx skills ls
npx skills update
npx skills remove netsuite-uif-spa-reference -a codex
--skill and -a take one or more values; --skill '*' takes all 10; -g installs in your home folder; -y skips the prompts the CLI otherwise shows. Oracle documents -a codex and -a cline; -a claude-code comes from the skills README.
Per the skills 1.7.0 source, a project install writes the files to .agents/skills/ (read by Codex and Cline), a symlink per skill in .claude/skills/ (--copy makes real copies), and skills-lock.json. Commit all three: that is your team’s install and your pin.
Oracle’s README also lists npx skills check: in skills 1.7.0 it runs the same code as update and applies updates. Commit first; review git diff afterwards.
Check it worked. npx skills ls lists the skills; /skills lists them in a new Claude Code or Codex session. Then ask Use $netsuite-sdf-roles-and-permissions to find the permission ID for MCP Server Connection. (in Claude Code, start with /netsuite-sdf-roles-and-permissions). The skill’s file says ADMI_MCP_SERVER.
For Oracle’s SuiteCloud Developer Assistant with -a cline: setup.
Install the NetSuite plug-in in Claude Code
/plugin install netsuite-suitecloud@claude-plugins-official
In a session, this shows the plug-in’s details and context cost, then asks for a scope: user (all your projects), project (everyone in the repository) or local (you, this repository). Run /reload-plugins if asked. In CI or a fresh container, add the marketplace first:
claude plugin marketplace add anthropics/claude-plugins-official
claude plugin install netsuite-suitecloud@claude-plugins-official --scope project
Check it worked. claude plugin list shows the plug-in and its scope; claude plugin details netsuite-suitecloud shows the tokens it adds to every session.
To stop automatic updates: /plugin, Marketplaces, select claude-plugins-official, Disable auto-update. The business plug-ins install the same way (netsuite-ai-companion, netsuite-finance-analyst).
Install in Codex, Claude and ChatGPT
- Codex CLI (per Oracle):
/plugins, search for the NetSuite plug-in, install, new chat, type@or$and its name. ChatGPT desktop app: select Codex, then Plugins. Not listed? Usenpx skills ... -a codex. - Claude chat and Cowork (Anthropic’s docs): Customize > Plugins > Discover, select NetSuite AI Companion or NetSuite Finance Analyst, Install. It is saved to your Claude account, so Claude Code gets it too. Oracle’s page shows another path (profile, Settings > Plugins > Browse > Partner).
- ChatGPT Work (per Oracle): Work mode, Plugins in the sidebar, search, install; type
@and the plug-in name.
Without a plug-in, upload netsuite-ai-connector-instructions.zip or netsuite-finance-analyst.zip from the 1.0 release:
- Claude (Anthropic’s help): turn on Code execution and file creation in Settings > Capabilities (Team and Enterprise: an owner enables Cloud code execution and file creation and Skills in Organization settings > Plugins & skills, Policy tab). Then Customize > Skills, +, + Create skill, Upload a skill, choose the ZIP. It stays private unless shared.
- ChatGPT: OpenAI’s help says Skills, Create, Upload from your computer; Oracle’s page says profile menu, Skills, New skill, Upload from your computer.
Ask a matching question: both clients can pick the skill up automatically, or you can name it, as Oracle’s ChatGPT demo does (NetSuite, ChatGPT demo).
Skills not enabled in your account? Oracle’s Companion demo suggests adding the instructions file to a project “as project instructions or as a skill” (NetSuite, Companion overview). Oracle’s Help Center documents only the ZIP upload.
Versions, license and dates
Every skill is version “1.0” under UPL 1.0, which allows changes. Oracle announced six skills on April 28, 2026 (two available that day); release 1.0 brought all 10 on June 15. No SKILL.md or reference file changed since, as of September 26.
Known issues to verify
Oracle advises to “always review generated output and test any changes in a non-production environment”. That includes the skills, as of September 26, 2026:
| Skill | What it says | Check it against | What to do |
|---|---|---|---|
netsuite-sdf-safe-guide (references/) |
Map/Reduce: 10,000 units “Per phase” | Help Center: map 1,000 and reduce 5,000 units per invocation; getInputData and summarize 10,000 | Use the Help Center |
netsuite-ai-connector-instructions |
“NEVER skip ROWNUM <= 1000”, also in GROUP BY and ORDER BY examples |
Oracle Database documentation: ROWNUM is assigned before ORDER BY; a WHERE filter also runs before GROUP BY | Bound totals by date range; for top N, sort in a subquery, ROWNUM outside |
netsuite-finance-analyst |
FETCH FIRST and SELECT *, which the connector skill forbids |
Each other | Test both |
netsuite-suitescript-records-reference |
“all 272 NetSuite record types” | The file: 128 records without body fields; inventoryitem, expensereport, timebill, job absent |
Absent from the file is not absent from NetSuite |
| OWASP, records, upgrade, finance skills | Point to netsuite-sdf-leading-practices and other unpublished skills or files |
The repository | Use netsuite-sdf-safe-guide |
netsuite-sdf-safe-guide |
Picks custom tool XML from target_netsuite_version in ~/.claude/ (default “2026.1”: toolset); says legacy <tool> still deploys |
Help Center: tool XML no longer deploys since the September 2026 minor release |
Keep the default, never “2025.2” (custom tools guide) |
netsuite-sdf-safe-guide |
Suggests "Bash(suitecloud project:deploy:*)" in permissions.allow of . |
Oracle’s Cline guidance: auto-approval “should be avoided for” deployments | Leave it out, or use permissions.ask (deny rules) |
The ROWNUM and Map/Reduce points were reported on GitHub (#1168, #1169) on September 23, 2026; the reporter closed both the same day, with no Oracle response and no fix.
Correct them in your project in the file your agent reads every session, CLAUDE.md (Claude Code) or AGENTS.md (Codex). An example, to adapt:
## Oracle NetSuite skills: corrections
- Map/Reduce governance: map 1,000 and reduce 5,000 units per invocation;
getInputData and summarize 10,000 (Help Center, Map/Reduce Governance).
- SuiteQL: never put ROWNUM in the WHERE of a query with GROUP BY or ORDER BY.
For top N, ORDER BY in a subquery, ROWNUM in the outer query.
- Custom tools: `toolset` XML with the `custtoolset_` prefix, never `<tool>`.
- `netsuite-sdf-leading-practices` does not exist: use `netsuite-sdf-safe-guide`.
- Never run `suitecloud project:deploy` without asking.
Instructions are context, not enforcement: block deploys with permission rules (guardrails). You may also edit your project copy of a skill (UPL allows it); npx skills update overwrites the edit.
Common problems
| Symptom | Cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Business plug-in installed, no NetSuite data | Plug-ins hold skills only | Connect the AI Connector (setup) |
| Plug-in missing in Cowork or Claude chat | Installed from the Claude Code command line, which stays on that machine (Anthropic) | Install it from Customize > Plugins |
Same skills twice in Claude Code’s / menu |
Installed with npx skills and the plug-in; both load (Anthropic) |
Remove one route |
claude plugin install fails in CI |
Official marketplace not registered yet (Anthropic) | Run claude plugin marketplace add first |
No NetSuite plug-in in Codex /plugins |
The listing is Oracle’s statement | npx skills add ... -a codex |
| Claude rejects the ZIP | Code execution off, or SKILL.md not at the ZIP root (Oracle) |
Enable it; upload Oracle’s ZIP unchanged |
FAQ
Is there a Claude skill file for SuiteScript?
Yes, eight. Install single skills with npx skills add oracle/netsuite-suitecloud-sdk --skill <name> -a claude-code, or all eight with the NetSuite SuiteCloud plug-in. The records reference is the most installed on skills.sh.
Do the skills work in Cursor or GitHub Copilot?
The skills CLI installs them with -a cursor or -a github-copilot (its README). Oracle documents only Codex, Claude Code and Cline.
Do the skills send my code to Oracle?
No. They are local files your agent reads; your code goes to your agent’s model provider, as without skills. The skills CLI sends anonymous install telemetry unless you set DISABLE_TELEMETRY=1.
Why are AI models so often wrong about NetSuite details, and do skills help?
Models guess field IDs, permission IDs and API names. Oracle says skills help reduce errors by pointing to source-of-truth references (272 record types, 669 permission IDs, 125 API mappings). They do not remove errors: the files have gaps and ignore your custom fields.
How should agents get access to official NetSuite documentation?
Oracle’s skills bundle part of it as local files. For your live schema, the MCP Standard Tools SuiteApp’s ns_getRecordTypeMetadata and ns_getSuiteQLMetadata tools, through the AI Connector, return fields and types (Standard Tools). Neither covers the full Help Center.
Where should business context live: in skills, in the AI client, or elsewhere?
Oracle’s skills carry generic NetSuite knowledge; on r/Netsuite, practitioners report writing their own for custom records, field meanings and internal terms.
Bill Feck, CTO of Packer Fastener, describes a path (NetSuite, AI Connector Service Live): iterate in a shared Claude project until answers are right, ask Claude to “go create a skill for me” (say, which saved search or report to use instead of SuiteQL), then share it company-wide.
Before sharing, have someone who knows the account check the saved searches, reports and field meanings it names; developers can keep it in Git. See Map and document a NetSuite account with AI.
How widely used are Oracle’s skills?
Counters on September 26, 2026 (installs or downloads, not users): about 6,400 installs on skills.sh, the skills CLI’s telemetry (records reference 891, finance analyst 356); 1,102 installs of the netsuite-suitecloud plug-in on claude.com; 1,566 downloads of the 1.0 ZIPs, 684 of them the finance analyst; 350 GitHub stars.
