Every AI feature on Oracle’s list for NetSuite 2026.2: what it does, what it costs, how to turn it on or off

By Arnaud de Turckheim

Last verified against NetSuite 2026.2

In short

NetSuite’s native AI features are the generative AI and machine learning features Oracle builds into NetSuite, from Text Enhance to Ask Oracle. As of NetSuite 2026.2 (September 2026):

  • Oracle’s official list names 12 standard generative AI features, 5 generative AI SuiteApps and modules, and 4 machine learning features. Ask Oracle (the conversational assistant) and NetSuite Next are documented separately.
  • Generative features consume NetSuite AI Units from one account pool: 1,000 per General Access user per month of term, provisioned upfront for the whole term and expiring when it ends. The AI Connector Service (Claude, ChatGPT) consumes none.
  • On by default: Text Enhance and its Translations, Narrative Insights (with Case Summary and Customer 360), Enriched Bank Data, NetSuite Expert, and N/llm wherever Server SuiteScript is on. The Transaction Matching Assistant is on for eligible accounts created after May 14, 2026. Ask Oracle starts with no role granted.
  • There is no single switch to turn all AI off. The audit below lists the pages, roles and scripts to check.

Who this is for

A finance systems manager or NetSuite administrator who must list which AI features are live, what they cost in AI Units, and which to keep on or turn off.

Every default, path and estimate below comes from Oracle’s documentation, checked on September 26, 2026. “Not stated” means Oracle does not say.

What you need

  • The Administrator role. Oracle documents AI Preferences, Enable Features, Ask Oracle Access, NetSuite Next Access and the AI Units dashboard for Administrators and names no other permission for them (Sales Manager can also manage Intelligent Recommendations).
  • Your number of General Access users (from your NetSuite contract), to size your AI Unit pool.
  • For kill switches and the AI Connector: Governing AI access to NetSuite.

Audit your account

Work through the checks in order; the table copies into a sheet. Two shorthands:

  • AI Preferences = Setup > Company > AI > AI Preferences.
  • Enable Features = Setup > Company > Enable Features (some Oracle pages write Setup > Company > Setup Tasks > Enable Features).
# Where What to read Status Decision
1 Setup > Company > View Billing Information; the AI Units usage dashboard (Oracle writes “Setup > Company > AI Units usage dashboard”) Units used this month; use by date, name and AI feature
2 AI Preferences: Text Enhance, Text Enhance Translations, Narrative Insights, Intelligent Recommendations subtabs Enable Text Enhance, Enable Translations, Enable Narrative Insights, Enable Customer 360 Narrative Insights, the three “for External Roles” boxes, Show Intelligent Recommendations Button for Item Recommendations
3 Enable Features, Accounting subtab Enriched Bank Data and Transaction Matching Assistant (Oracle does not name their boxes), Payment Date Prediction, Bill Capture; under Advanced Features, Intelligent Close Manager, Exception Management Models, Exception Management
4 Enable Features, Items & Inventory, SuiteCloud and CRM subtabs Supply Chain Control Tower; Server SuiteScript (read only: see the N/llm warning below); Customer Relationship Management (Case Summary needs it)
5 Setup > Company > AI > Ask Oracle Access Roles set to Has access
6 Setup > Company > AI > NetSuite Next Access Each role’s setting
7 Roles with Setup Prompts (ADMI_PROMPTS) (a Role saved search on Permission finds them); Setup > Company > AI > Prompt Studio Who can edit prompts; custom prompts and Text Enhance actions
8 Customization > SuiteCloud Development > Installed SuiteApp List; your script source code SuiteApps that use generative AI (Compliance 360, NetSuite CPQ Configurator, Subscription Metrics); scripts that load N/llm
9 Roles with MCP Server Connection Who can connect Claude or ChatGPT through the AI Connector, Oracle’s Model Context Protocol (MCP) server: no AI Units, but data goes to the AI provider (permissions guide)

Scope: AI Preferences and Enable Features boxes apply to the whole account. Oracle documents no per-role setting for them, only separate boxes for external roles (Customer Center, Vendor Center and others), off by default.

Ask Oracle, NetSuite Next and Prompt Studio are set per role; SuiteCloud Developer Assistant per developer, in VS Code.

NetSuite AI Units: how native AI is metered

NetSuite AI Units are “the standard measure used to track consumption of NetSuite AI features” (Oracle). Since the August 2026 minor release of 2026.2, NetSuite’s generative AI features share one AI Unit pool instead of separate usage pools. Some AI consumes no units (see below).

Allowances, per Oracle’s AI Units FAQ:

License AI Units
NetSuite General Access Cloud Service User 1,000 per month of term, provisioned upfront into the account pool
NetSuite Sandbox Environment Cloud Service Separate pool equal to production’s licensed units
NetSuite Development Environment Cloud Service Separate pool of 10,000 per month of term

Oracle’s example: 10 General Access users on a 36-month term receive 360,000 AI Units “for use throughout their term” (10 x 1,000 x 36).

  • One pool for the whole term: provisioned upfront, not reset monthly. Unused units expire when the term ends and do not carry over into a renewal.
  • No documented cap per user or per feature. Oracle’s levers are monitoring, alerts and user education. Yours are the feature switches, Ask Oracle access by role, and Ask Oracle’s effort level: higher levels “increase response time and AI unit consumption.”
  • Add-on packs: “NetSuite AI Units (10,000 Pooled AI Units)” and “(25,000 Pooled AI Units)”. Oracle publishes no price: ask your NetSuite account manager.
  • Running out: Oracle says administrators will receive email alerts near the limit (the same FAQ also calls alerts planned), then customers “are expected to purchase more or pause any further usage of AI features.” Oracle does not give alert thresholds or say whether features stop at zero.
  • No bring-your-own model for native features.

Oracle’s usage estimates (actual use varies):

Feature Oracle’s example AI Units
Ask Oracle Simple question (“How do I create a vendor credit in NetSuite?”) About 10
Ask Oracle Analysis question 10 to 50
Ask Oracle Research question 50 to 200
Case Summary Summarize a case 5 to 75
Narrative Insights Generate Insight on a Customer record 5 to 200
Prompt Studio Test a prompt action 5 to 10
N/llm module Script drafts a renewal email 5 to 25
Text Enhance Reword a support message 5 to 10
Transaction Matching Assistant Choose between several $1,250 matches 5 to 10

Budget example (illustrative, on Oracle’s estimates): 25 General Access users on a 36-month term receive 900,000 units (25 x 1,000 x 36).

If 10 people each ask 3 research questions per working day (about 21 days), that is 630 questions, or 31,500 to 126,000 units a month. At that pace the pool lasts roughly 7 to 29 months, before any other feature.

Not consuming units, per Oracle: the AI Connector Service, and add-on modules “such as NetSuite Bill Capture, NetSuite EPM products and NetSuite Analytics Warehouse.” SuiteApps that use NetSuite’s generative AI (the SuiteScript Generative AI APIs, Text Enhance, Prompt Studio, Ask Oracle) do consume units.

Where to see usage: check 1 of the audit above.

NetSuite AI features list (2026.2)

“Not listed” means the feature is absent from Oracle’s AI Units estimates page. Oracle’s FAQ calls that page the list of features that use AI Units, but does not say unlisted features are free. Feature names link to Oracle’s Help Center.

Standard generative AI features (12)

Oracle counts Text Enhance Translations as part of Text Enhance; it has its own box, so it gets its own row.

Feature What it does Default AI Units (Oracle estimate) Switch
Case Summary Summary, sentiment and timeline of a support case; needs Customer Relationship Management On 5 to 75 AI Preferences > Narrative Insights > Enable Narrative Insights (shared with Narrative Insights)
Customer 360 Narrative Insights Customer summary in the Customer 360 view On Not listed separately AI Preferences > Narrative Insights > Enable Customer 360 Narrative Insights; also needs Enable Narrative Insights
Enriched Bank Data Resolves same-amount bank matches using entity details On Not listed Enable Features > Accounting (box not named by Oracle)
Item Creation Assistant Creates items from a PDF catalog, after your review Not stated Not listed No documented switch or permission. Page: Lists > Accounting > Item creation assistant (Administrator)
Narrative Insights Generate Insight on supported standard reports and records; not for healthcare customers with a signed Business Associate Agreement (BAA) On 5 to 200 AI Preferences > Narrative Insights > Enable Narrative Insights
NetSuite Expert in SuiteAnswers AI answer to a SuiteAnswers search of three words or more; English On Not listed No documented switch

Text Enhance Translations “Translate to” action On Counts; no separate estimate AI Preferences > Text Enhance Translations > Enable Translations
Transaction Matching Assistant Recommends one match in bank reconciliation, never submits it; eligible NetSuite Next customers only; “uses OpenAI” On if the account was created after May 14, 2026; off before 5 to 10 Enable Features > Accounting (box not named by Oracle)

External roles are excluded unless you tick Enable Text Enhance for External Roles, Enable Translations for External Roles or Enable Narrative Insights for External Roles.

Watch it: the 2026.1 Text Enhance button on a customer record (Crowe, 0:58); a custom Text Enhance action built in Prompt Studio (Protelo, 4:25, July 2025); Generate Insight on A/R aging, back orders and a customer (Annexa, 6:39).

The insight panel itself takes no follow-up questions, a partner consultant noted in July 2026 (Eureka Solutions, 18:27).

In a NetSuite Next demo, an eye icon on the insight panel shows the reasoning behind the insights (Verde, 5:43); to act on an insight in Ask Oracle, see Claude and ChatGPT on NetSuite for finance.

Generative AI SuiteApps and modules (5)

Feature What it does Purchase AI Units Availability
Audit Summarization Audit summaries in Compliance 360; uses the SuiteScript Generative AI API Compliance 360 SuiteApp Yes, per Oracle’s FAQ on SuiteApps All languages
Bill Capture Vendor bills from uploaded or emailed PDF, JPEG, PNG Add-on module No US only, “a limited number of accounts”; English
NetSuite Connector Ecommerce, logistics and point-of-sale integration; its AI part queries SuiteAnswers through NetSuite Expert. Not the AI Connector Service Not stated Not stated Not stated
NetSuite CPQ AI Assistant Chat to configure a configurable item NetSuite CPQ Configurator SuiteApp Not stated 12 locations incl. US, UK, Canada; English
Subscription Metrics SuiteApp Summary portlet Not stated Yes, per Oracle’s FAQ (uses Prompt Studio) Not stated

Watch it: Bill Capture at Transactions > Payables > Scanned Vendor Bills, from upload to the review page (SuperTraining, 1:28, April 2025). In one test, the proposed bill put every line under expenses, not items, some names deliberately shortened or misspelled (6:26): test your own vendors’ bills first.

The document highlighting shown in that video was removed in August 2026.

The rest of Oracle’s list: two non-generative SuiteScript modules (N/documentCapture, N/machineTranslation); SuiteCloud Agent Skills (for coding assistants) and AI Agent Plug-ins (skills packaged for AI platforms, for developers and business users), see agent skills.

Oracle also lists integration features: the AI Connector Service and the MCP Standard Tools SuiteApp (free per Oracle), NetSuite Analytics Warehouse and NetSuite Planning and Budgeting.

Oracle documents more AI outside this list, not covered here: Intelligent Close Manager insights, CFO Insights labor summaries, Enhanced Technician Notes in Field Service Management, AI Description fields. Announced, not documented: Intelligent Flux Analysis (July 15, 2026), AI-drafted explanations of balance changes between periods.

Machine learning features (4)

Feature What it does Default Switch Conditions
Exception Management Flags unusual transactions Must be enabled Enable Features > Accounting > Advanced Features > Exception Management Models, then Exception Management “currently not available to all customers”
Payment Date Prediction Predicts invoice payment dates Off Enable Features > Accounting > Payment Date Prediction 12 weeks of payment history plus 50 paid invoices before that window; not on Release Preview accounts
Intelligent Recommendations Suggests items on sales orders, estimates, opportunities and websites Not stated AI Preferences > Intelligent Recommendations > Show Intelligent Recommendations Button for Item Recommendations (transactions only, not websites) Customer Relationship Management, SuiteCommerce or SuiteCommerce Advanced
Supply Chain Control Tower Predicts late orders Must be enabled Enable Features > Items & Inventory > Supply Chain Control Tower Inventory, Multi-Location Inventory, Advanced Inventory Management

None appears in Oracle’s AI Units estimates. Oracle does not state license fees for these features or their prerequisites.

Exception Management lists findings at Lists > Accounting > Exception Management, on Transaction Errors (Incorrect Amount, Incorrect Account, Vendor Information Change) and Expected Transactions (Missing Transactions and Expected Transactions) subtabs. The Transaction Errors sensitivity slider runs from 10% (default: fewest, highest-priority exceptions) to 100% (Oracle). Watch it: Eureka Solutions, 15:23.

How to turn off AI in NetSuite

“NetSuite does not currently provide a single account-level switch to disable all AI functionality” (Oracle). Use the Switch columns above. What else goes off:

  • Enable Narrative Insights: also stops Case Summary, Customer 360 Narrative Insights, Intelligent Close Manager insights and its “AI Prioritized” order.
  • Enable Text Enhance: Translations stop too, since they need Text Enhance.
  • Exception Management Models: stops model training and turns off the Exception Management page.
  • Enriched Bank Data: same-amount bank lines are no longer resolved with entity details.

N/llm has no standalone switch. Do not clear Server SuiteScript to stop it: that stops every server script and the SuiteApps that need it, including Bill Capture and the AI Connector Service.

Where no toggle exists, Oracle advises you to “restrict access through roles and permissions.” Find the scripts and SuiteApps that load N/llm (check 8) and change them (N/llm guide).

Checking what AI changed: System Notes now have an AI Used column (in System Notes v2, check the AI Used box to show it).

In the current NetSuite experience it tracks only changes made by AI Connector Service custom tools; in NetSuite Next it can also show “Ask Oracle”. Full procedure: Governing AI access to NetSuite.

What Oracle says about your data, feature by feature

Oracle makes no blanket statement. To see which model each feature uses, read the SuiteAnswers article “LLM Mapping for Generative AI Features” (login required). Per source:

  • N/llm: “The data is not used by third parties for model training.”
  • Case Summary: “The data never leaves Oracle infrastructure and is not used for AI model training.”
  • Text Enhance: data “may be processed globally according to the Oracle Services Privacy Policy.”
  • OpenAI features (the Transaction Matching Assistant is one): prompts go to an OpenAI endpoint “outside of the Oracle managed datacenter,” under “Zero Data Retention” (Supplemental Terms).
  • Exception Management: models “trained only on their own data.”
  • AI Connector: your AI provider’s privacy policy applies.

Oracle names Cohere Command, OpenAI GPT-OSS, GPT 4.x and GPT 5.x models; its terms also cover “xAI models.” Oracle says the features on its AI list are not yet assessed for HIPAA (the US health data law) and should not process protected health information.

Ask Oracle

Ask Oracle is Oracle’s conversational assistant, designed “to help you get useful business insights from your data.” It lives in NetSuite Next, and is also “available as a companion for existing NetSuite customers in the United States and Canada” (Oracle newsroom, July 15, 2026).

Oracle: “Ask Oracle is being made available to customers in phases in the coming months,” with “additional countries coming soon” (no date). It “is included with your NetSuite license,” but every question consumes AI Units.

Access by role (off by default)

“By default, roles do not have access.” To grant it:

  1. Check eligibility: eligible accounts get an in-app notification, and Administrators see a “Start exploring NetSuite Next” banner. Its Get Started page offers “Set up Ask Oracle in your current NetSuite account.”
  2. Log in as Administrator (the only role that can open the access page).
  3. Go to Setup > Company > AI > Ask Oracle Access.
  4. Find the role, click Has access (or No access). An August 2026 walkthrough shows a checkbox per role instead (Tech Nest by Sakshi, 0:46).
  5. Click Save, then refresh the page: “Launch Ask Oracle” appears next to your profile (same video, 1:43).

File uploads also need “Document Insights” enabled for the role and File Cabinet upload access. Oracle does not document where Document Insights is set.

What it does

As of September 2026, Ask Oracle can:

  • answer from a report (by name, @Income Statement, URL or report ID), with a link to the report and a CSV export, or from a saved search (by title or script ID);
  • take up to five context items per chat, at effort levels Auto, Low, Medium, High or Maximum;
  • ask your approval before “protected actions” that “can change data”;
  • apply 20 core skills, “ready-to-use skills authored by NetSuite,” such as Payment prioritization or Period close readiness review. Oracle says they are “designed for NetSuite Next” and may not work as expected in the current interface.

It keeps chat history 90 days, “does not browse the public internet,” and sees only reports your role can access.

Seen in practice (partner demos, not Oracle documentation):

  • Asked for next steps on an overdue invoice, Ask Oracle applied the Overdue customer analysis skill on its own and listed collection actions (Sarah Muha, RSM, September 2026). For a canvas (a chat-built dashboard), ask: “create a canvas.”
  • Show explanation can show the SuiteQL query Ask Oracle ran, for checking numbers (Hood River Consulting; Tavano Team with Oracle).
  • On a three-day trial account in June 2026, before the 2026.2 rollout, a follow-up lost the customer named just before, and a cash-flow question without a period failed (SuperTraining). Name the entity, subsidiary and period in every prompt.

NetSuite Next

NetSuite Next is “a reimagined, AI-powered ERP” on the same platform, data, roles and customizations; Oracle’s FAQ says it is not a completely new product.

Status: rollout began with 2026.2 in the US and Canada on July 15, 2026. What Oracle has said (statements, not availability):

When Who, where What they said
October 2025 Evan Goldberg, SuiteWorld Preview “in just a few months,” general availability “next year” (27:50)
March 23, 2026 Brian Chess, SuiteConnect Sydney Australia and New Zealand: preview “within the next six months” (24:56), a window that ended in September 2026
April 28, 2026 Keynote, SuiteConnect San Francisco US customers “can expect full availability later this year” (19:15)
September 10, 2026 Mike Sicilia, Oracle co-CEO, earnings call “we are announcing the general availability” (The Motley Fool)

The Help Center still says “being made available to customers in phases.”

Eligible accounts get an in-app notification. Administrators can then request a 30-day preview account (a copy of production).

Test customizations there: Oracle’s solution consulting head for Australia and New Zealand called them “all compatible” (Annexa webinar, May 2026), but Oracle’s FAQ says some client scripts, form customizations or portlet scripts that manipulate HTML “may need review.”

Administrators set each role at Setup > Company > AI > NetSuite Next Access: “NetSuite Next only”, “Optional” or “No access” (“Blocked” in Oracle’s release note and on screen in Tech Nest’s walkthrough, 2:39). Center roles are not eligible. The Help Center states no price for NetSuite Next.

Per Oracle, “NetSuite Next only” switches users at their next login; “Optional” lets them “switch between” versions (a partner demo exits NetSuite Next from the menu under the user’s name: GIR Software Services, 3:01).

In a partner’s NetSuite Next test account, users without Ask Oracle access still get the search bar, as global search only (GIR, 5:51; not in Oracle’s docs). With access, a question typed there offers a chat with Ask Oracle (Verde, 2:09).

AI agents and SuiteAgents

Oracle documents two kinds of agents: “Ask Oracle capabilities” and “NetSuite agents” for specific workflows, available from Ask Oracle (type @) or from a page or feature entry point. “Agents can’t access records, reports, pages, or actions that your role can’t access.” Oracle publishes no list of available agents.

SuiteAgents, custom agents built on the SuiteCloud platform, were announced on October 7, 2025. In Oracle’s demo, an admin writes the agent’s system prompt in Prompt Studio, and a SuiteAgent is “a custom object defined in the SuiteCloud development framework” (SuiteWorld 2025, 1:22:02; again at SuiteConnect San Francisco, 15:54).

In a webinar posted July 31, 2026, an Oracle solution consultant still called SuiteAgents “future planned roadmap” (Tavano Team). As of September 26, 2026, no Help Center page documents a SuiteAgent object or API. SuiteWorld 2026 (October 25 to 28) may change this.

Patrick Puck, Oracle’s GVP of AI strategy, design and engineering, said in October 2025 that agents would start from Ask Oracle or on their own in the background (agents that “wake up on Monday morning” and flag anomalies), with users or administrators choosing the autonomy (NetSuite Podcast, 23:45).

Oracle’s Agents Overview documents only agents you start from Ask Oracle or a page, and no autonomy setting.

Treat agent demos as vision: in one, Ask Oracle “creates an agent to scan public websites” for competitor prices (SuiteWorld 2025, 1:05:06), yet Oracle’s FAQ says it “does not browse the public internet.”

Native AI or an external assistant via the AI Connector?

Oracle: “The NetSuite AI Connector Service works alongside Ask Oracle.” The connector lets your own AI client (Claude, ChatGPT) work on NetSuite data, with your choice of model and data from other systems. It is free and consumes no AI Units, though your AI client may need a paid plan.

Native AI fits questions in context and summaries inside NetSuite pages. Compare all options in AI and NetSuite in 2026.

Common problems

  • No Ask Oracle: account not yet in the phased rollout, outside the US and Canada, or role not granted.
  • Text Enhance options missing: Make Shorter needs over 200 characters; Make Longer needs less than half the field limit used.
  • Narrative Insights fails: shorten the period or filter. Customized reports are not supported.
  • No AI bank recommendation: NetSuite Next eligibility required; off by default in accounts created before May 14, 2026.
  • Exception Management, NetSuite Analytics Warehouse or Bill Capture missing, though a keynote (Sydney, 31:38) or partner demo called it included: Exception Management is “currently not available to all customers”; Oracle says to contact your NetSuite Account Manager. The other two are add-on modules: check your contract.
  • AI Units drop while your Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) tenancy shows no N/llm use: since August 2026 the ociConfig object (your own OCI credentials) is ignored without an error. Remove it and budget those calls in AI Units.

FAQ

Which NetSuite AI features are on by default?

Text Enhance and Translations, Narrative Insights (with Case Summary and Customer 360), Enriched Bank Data, NetSuite Expert, and N/llm wherever Server SuiteScript is on. The Transaction Matching Assistant is on for eligible accounts created after May 14, 2026. Ask Oracle starts with no role granted.

What are NetSuite AI Units?

Oracle’s meter for native generative AI. Each General Access user adds 1,000 units per month of term to one shared pool, provisioned upfront and expiring at term end. Extra packs of 10,000 or 25,000 units exist.

What happens when we run out of AI Units?

Oracle says administrators get email alerts near the limit, then customers “are expected to purchase more or pause any further usage of AI features.” It documents no cap per user or per feature and does not say whether features stop at zero.

How do I turn off Text Enhance in NetSuite?

Setup > Company > AI > AI Preferences > Text Enhance subtab > clear Enable Text Enhance > Save. Translations stop with it. To stop only translations, clear Enable Translations on the Text Enhance Translations subtab.

Does Ask Oracle or NetSuite Next cost extra?

Oracle says “Ask Oracle is included with your NetSuite license,” but each question consumes AI Units, about 10 to 200 by Oracle’s estimates. Oracle’s Help Center states no price for NetSuite Next itself; ask your account manager.

Which NetSuite AI features send data to OpenAI?

Oracle’s Help Center flags the Transaction Matching Assistant: “This feature uses OpenAI.” Its terms say OpenAI prompts leave Oracle’s datacenter under zero data retention. The full feature-to-model map is in SuiteAnswers (login required).

Do Claude, ChatGPT or Bill Capture use AI Units?

No. “The NetSuite AI Connector will not consume AI Units,” says Oracle, and add-on modules such as Bill Capture do not either. The connector is free; your AI client may require a paid subscription.
